
District Winner of Music Scholarship Contest heading to State Competition

Tyler King, son of Bill and Libby King of Abingdon, Va., won the district level and will compete at the state level in mid-May. He is shown playing for guests in the dining room of the Martha Washington Inn in December 2005.
About Tyler King: He entered the local level of the contest sponsored by the Bristol Host Lions Club and won in the instrumental category, playing piano. The District level contest was held March 26 at Southwest Virginia Community College, Richlands, Va. There Tyler competed against four other instrumentalists and took the prize. He will travel to Hampton, Va. in mid-May to compete on the state level. Tyler is a senior at Abingdon High School and plans to attend East Tennessee State University in the fall, where he will major in engineering and minor in music. Tyler began taking piano lessons at age five.
