Tennessee Arts Commission announces Call for Artworks
06.19.2006NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Arts Commission is seeking applications from Tennessee artists for the Commission's 2007-2009 exhibition series. Located in downtown Nashville, the gallery features rotating shows on display for 6-8 weeks. Completed applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Commission's office by Friday, Aug. 18.
The Tennessee Arts Commission Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting and promoting the talents of artists working in visual art, craft, media, and design disciplines from across the state of Tennessee.
"The Commission's gallery is committed to presenting diverse and challenging shows of consistently strong work by the state's most talented artists," says Nicole Pietrantoni, director of visual arts, craft, and media program for the Commission. The gallery was recently named "Best Exhibition Series" by the Nashville Scene.
The gallery strives to have a combination of solo, duo, and group exhibitions. The Call for Works is limited to professional artists who are legal residents of Tennessee at the time of application. Individuals not eligible to apply include: full-time students, full-time employees for the State of Tennessee (other than instructors on faculties of state-supported educational institutions), and members of the Commission, its staff and families. Artists who have had an exhibit at the Commission within the past three years are not eligible to apply.
Applicants meeting all eligibility requirements and criteria, are asked to submit an artist resume with current contact information (six copies), artist statement (six copies), and a CD with 10-15 clearly labeled JPEG images in the format of a PowerPoint presentation. Only electronic images on CD are acceptable. Each PowerPoint slide should include the artist's name, title of work, medium, dimensions, and date. The CD should be clearly labeled with the artist's name and contact information. Proposals for installations are welcome.
Artwork for the exhibition at the Commission Gallery is selected based on artistic merit and excellence. A selection panel composed of arts professionals will convene in Nashville to review applications.
